Happy Teachers Day 2015

Every year the world celebrates teachers and the important role they have in our lives.  It's celebrated on 5th October each year but Australia is on holidays then, so we celebrate on the last Friday in October when our teachers and kids are back at school.

Teachers have the ability to have a huge influence on children's learning, and helping them to reach their full potential so days like these give us a great opportunity to recognise their work and say thank you.

On World Teachers Day in Australia we would like to thank all the teachers who continue to spend hours planning, organising and teaching our children.  Your gifts never end, from great teaching strategies and learning outcomes, to the endless resources you make and buy in your own time please note that we as parents notice and are truly grateful.

Happy World Teachers Day in Australia!

Universal Children's Day 2015

We are very fortunate to live in such a great country, where rights and freedoms are a given.  Universal Children's Day is celebrated around the globe on 20 November.  In Australia we celebrate a little earlier on the fourth Wednesday of October so that it is celebrated in Children's Week.  This special day marks the day the UN assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

All those years ago the  world made a promise to children that their right to survive and thrive, learn and develop to reach their full potential would be protected.  Whilst we watch as school enrolment and attendance increases around the globe there are still too many children missing such opportunities.  Lots of children still do not enjoy their rights and are unable to reach their full potential as the UN had hoped.  Whilst they are working to increase children's outcomes there is much we can do and one of those is being grateful for the lives we lead and thinking of ways we can help other children to reach their full potential.
